'The yips’ is a psycho-neuro-muscular impediment affecting sportspersons. Symptoms include jerks, tremors, staggers and freezing, and may cause performance problems. The condition can occur suddenly and without apparent explanation - usually in mature athletes with years of experience, especially those whose sports skills require them to perform a single precise and well-timed action, such as golf and darts.
Estimates are that around 30% of professional golfers may be affected at some stage of their career.
The cause of 'Yips' is unknown, and it currently has no treatment or therapy.
