Wikenigma - an Encyclopedia of Unknowns Wikenigma - an Encyclopedia of the Unknown

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Why is there no technology section?

A. If a man-made article has a behaviour which no-one (not even the designers) can explain, let Wikenigma know, and it'll be up-for-inclusion. Amazingly, there are quite a few examples already listed - see : #Tag - Functionality unexplainedplugin-autotooltip__plain plugin-autotooltip_big#Functionality unexplained

These tags are for pages about man-made items or processes which are known to work, but by mechanisms which no-one yet completely understands.

See :

----------

Note: A significant number of medicinal drugs have unknown 'Mechanisms of Action' - see the Medicine/ Drugs section in the main menu.

Q. Why can't I create a new article?

A. You can! But you need to be a registered userplugin-autotooltip__plain plugin-autotooltip_bigRegistration

At present, only registered users can create and edit articles.

If you'd like to register as a contributor, please request a password.

When filling in the form, make sure you supply a valid e-mail address, as the login password will be sent to that address.
first. Once you're a registered user, the easiest way is to use the 'Create a new article' link (which shows at the top of every page for logged-in users).

Q. I'm a registered user, why can't I edit this page?

A. Some pages, like the site info pages, aren't available for public editing - but you can of course edit any of the content pages, or create new ones, if you're a registered user.

Q. Why are there dead links?

A. Unfortunately, links to external websites sometimes fail - usually when the target website changes the location of where the page is stored (or deletes it). If you find a broken link, get in touchplugin-autotooltip__plain plugin-autotooltip_bigContact

Use this form to send a message to Wikenigma . . . [ * note: all fields must be completed ]

Alternatively, you can e-mail using
and let Wikenigma know! Sometimes the page has just been moved, and the link can be updated. (Note: the site has an automatic external link-checker - which finds most of the dead links)

Q. Why are there no conspiracy theories?

A. By definition, if there is a 'conspiracy' of some description, then someone, somewhere (i.e. the conspirators) must know the details. Wikenigma only lists things which no-one, anywhere, knows the answer to.

Q. Why the weird syntax?

A. Like most Wikis, the site doesn't use HTML for formatting (security reasons etc). A guide to the special syntax can be found hereplugin-autotooltip__plain plugin-autotooltip_bigFormatting Syntax

There are two ways to edit pages, the default Visual Editor, which is more intuitive, and the more comprehensive Syntax Editor.

( You can switch editors with the 'Switch Editor' button at the top right of the page )

Visual Editor
. Unfortunately it can be quite confusing at first - but there's now a new 'Visual Editor' system which greatly simplifies things. Best rule - keep it simple.

Q. Why didn't you use the MediaWiki core like Wikipedia?

A. It's heavyweight software designed for very large wiki implementations. Currently beyond the scope of this site.

Q. My pet goldfish died and no-one seems to know why - can I include it?

A. Probably not. But if there was an unexplained epidemic of goldfish deaths that had been mentioned in reputable media, or in academic literature, then yes!
