====== Psychogenic Non-Epileptic seizure (PNES) ======

//Psychogenic non-epileptic seizures// are seizure events which appear similar to those of [[content:medicine:diseases:a-f:epilepsy]], but without the associated (easily identifiable) electrical brainwave patterns.

The seizures can be severe, and last up to two minutes.

The cause is unknown, but current opinion is that it's a predominantly psychological disorder.

It has been estimated to affect between 2 and 33 people per 100,000 - meaning there is a lack of data regarding its prevalence. It's currently thought that many of those with PNES are being mis-diagnosed (i.e. being classified as Epilepsy itself).
