====== Kimura disease ====== >Kimura disease is a benign rare chronic inflammatory disorder of unknown etiology that involves the lymph nodes and subcutaneous tissue of the head and neck regions. Elevated serum immunoglobulin E levels and peripheral blood eosinophilia are also common. This disease is most common in middle-aged Asian men. Although the etiology is unknown, it most probably represents an aberrant chronic immune response."\\ \\ Source : [[https://meridian.allenpress.com/aplm/article/131/4/650/460140/Kimura-Disease|Kimura Disease]]{{:oa_padlock_grn.png?16}} //Archives of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, //Volume 131, Issue 4. Kimura disease was first described in 1937 by Kim and Szeto in the Chinese literature and was known as //Eosinophilic Hyperplastic Lymphograuloma. //It was later re-decribed// by //Kimura et al. in 1948. The cause(s) have not yet been identified. Treatments include surgical resection, regional or systemic steroid therapy, cytotoxic therapy, and radiation. Although not 'curable' as such, the treatments can greatly alleviate the symptoms, though it may re-occur. Note that because Kimura is uncommon and has symptoms which are broadly similar to some other malignant diseases, it's frequently mis-diagnosed, and wrongly prescribed treatments can be damaging to the patient.
